Interview with Joe

Monday, August 6th, 2007

I got to talk to Joe DiAngelo, accomplished fitness trainer. He had some tips about weight loss and gain.

Tell me a bit about yourself.

I am an accomplished athlete, and winner over 20 medals in competition. After I finished my career in swimming I started to work as a personal fitness trainer.

What makes your fitness program unique?

My programs are producing results. No promises, just results! My clients reshape bodies in only
eight weeks and that’s something to celebrate.

I’m offering a customized training program for your fitness goals, complete with a guide to mentally prepare yourself to change your body, a nutrition plan, and a physical training plan.

What do you recommend for a person who is obese and also what is your suggestion for someone with a low BMI?

An obese person must fix the diet and start exercising.

For someone with a low BMI, it is important to focus on a good nutrition plan and start weight training as well.

What foods do you think are essential for good health?

I am a big fan of veggies and lean proteins. Most people never achieve fitness goals because they never eat veggies. No veggies, no results! Simple as that.

Some simple ways to lose weight.

You have to start building lean muscle, that’s why you have to start weight lifting. You have to have a good nutrition program or it won’t happen. You will have to start doing cardio.

Health Challenge:Walking

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

This week’s health challenge has come in a bit too late but I’ll post it anyway….

Walking whenever you get the chance.

I’ve become addicted to my laptop as I blog a good deal and spend a lot of time writing and making notes. So I’ve decided to start moving around more and what better way than walking. If you are working try to get up every half hour and get a breather. The usual take the stairs route. Or park your car a good distance from your destination.

walking.jpg

I really loved this story on walking and fitness…..starts like this…

Many people treat their bodies as if they were rented from Hertz -
something they are using to get around in but nothing they genuinely care about understanding.

- Lawrence Durrell

More here…..Walking 65000 miles

Tell me about how much you walk in a day. Are you restless by nature or do you prefer the sedentary life?

I personally like walking but for me the issue is inability to move around much since I live in a polluted crowded city and find it difficult to walk in any place except crowded malls on weekends….have to find a way to get around these problems….

Blog Watch

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

There is a lot of speculation about how blogging is unintelligent and is the cult of amateur. But I have learnt a lot from my blogging experience. I’ve enjoyed reading a whole lot of blogs and you can watch out for this space to see some posts that I’ve really enjoyed.

*************************************************
There are a whole lot of diet gurus who lay out the rules of eating. And there are some people who follow these teachers to the tee. The others wonder what all the fuss is about and do not like to listen to nutritional experts with diet advise that is hard to swallow. I liked what Happy Medium had to say about her dilemma with handling restaurant food. Being a health writer myself, I’m torn between these two points of view.

re.jpg

See what she has to say:

Eating healthy while eating out can be difficult. For me, it’s always been about finding something healthy that tastes good enough to make me forego all the unhealthy (but oh-so-tasty) crap on the menu. I’m sick of condescending and totally unrealistic magazine articles on “healthy eating in restaurants tips. Order salad without dressing. Blech - I’d just as soon go graze in the backyard. Order fruit instead of dessert. Just when was the last time you were in a restaurant that offered an apple on the menu next to the chocolate cake? My all-time eye-rolling favorite was one I read recently. A nutritionist said, “If you can’t stop yourself at one or two slices of pizza, do what I do. Just order a big plate of steamed veggies instead! Seriously. I wanted to magically reach through the magazine pages to ***** slap her. Let’s take this one apart, shall we? First, I don’t know anyone - except children and possibly my size 2 petite mother - who fills up on 1 or 2 average sized pizza slices.

Since I’m interested in yoga, this post caught my fancy.Nita writes about how dangerous it is to do yoga with a teacher who can go wrong. Never do yoga looking at DVDs or under an instructor you haven’t really heard of. The best way to find a teacher would be through word of mouth.

Says Nita:

Yoga is supposed to be gentle on the body, at least that is how I see it. But the teachers may not be gentle. The worst part of it is that a student may not understand his or her limits because the teacher herself doesn’t. She may not have asked you if you have blood pressure…or menstrual problems…or back problems. Who will then judge whether you are not already stretched to the limit?

30 Days Raw

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

I did a post on raw food diet a long time ago. 451 press has come a long way since then :)

Here’s an excerpt of the raw food diet post:

Fruits, veggies, sprouts, dried fruits, legumes, seaweed, freshly made veg and fruit juices,
coconut milk(fresh) are some of the things you can live on. Why do people go in for this kind of diet? Well their claim is that cooking food causes te food to lose any nutritional value it has. The nutritional content of fruits and veggies are destroyed when exposed to heat and water. Raw
food is rich in enzymes and these enzymes are essential if healthy digestion is to take place.

This kind of diet is believed to help detoxify the system and leave you fresh and rejuvenated. But take your doc’s advice if you want to stay on this diet for more than a week. There are chances that you can get Irritable Bowel Syndrome if you take in an excess of raw food diet. But since fruits are so low on calories, there is a positive chance that it helps in weight loss. Just make that you scrunch on nuts since nuts are a high source of protein. Also keep in mind that such a diet is low on iron as well. Patients with cancer and pregnant women should stay off this diet, since it guarantees weight loss.

Raw for 30 Days
is a documentary film that uses raw food to tackle diabetes. Six McDonald’s-munching Americans with diabetes who switch to a diet consisting entirely of vegan, organic, live, raw foods in order to reverse diabetes naturally. The six participants are challenged to give up meat, dairy, sugar, alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, soda, junk food, fast food, processed food, packaged food, and even cooked food – as well as go without their loved ones and many of their creature comforts – for 30 days.

Check out the trailer….looks good.
