Back to the Stone Age
The stone age diet is all about the way our ancestors ate food before the discovery of fire and cooking. It is believed that stone age man did not suffer from diseases like hypertension, diabetes and obesity. Life in the stone age was far from perfect. It was a life of constant risk and perhaps the most important period of man’s mental development. He survived against all odds and developed motor skills that have since turned the resourceful human into a dependent creature. Today the developed world depends tremendously on technology.
Although man was safe from certain ailments, his risks of dying from bacterial infections and wounds were far greater. No one wants go back to the stone age but there has been a lot of research in the field of paleolithic dietary norms. It was a diet high on fiber and low on unnecessary carbohydrates. Consumption of dairy products were also limited.
Due to the absence of cooking, grains, beans and root vegetables like potatoes were practically non-existent in the human diet. Research shows that grains when uncooked are highly toxic and since the purpose of grain is to really provide fruit, grains and beans contain natural poisons that make them unattractive as food.
So the absence of grains in the stone age diet makes sense as grains could not be cooked and were toxic.Today a diet high in refined grain causes sugar in the blood stream to spiral and thereby increases insulin production. The kind of meat that people eat is different too.Domesticated animals are fed on processed grain and even meat. And to make things worse modern man doesn’t exercise as much as he should.
