Here we go!

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

Hello everyone,

I am so excited to be able to share with all of you the many issues and topics that relate to overall health and wellness. With the million or so websites out there for any of us to read, I am honored that you continue to visit this site and join me on my journey of living fit!

Please let me introduce myself. My name is Kimberly Linton and I live in the Washington DC Metro area. I just spent the last 20 years of my life going to college and finally finishing with my MBA in hopes of joining the rest of the people in Corporate America. My goal was to be financially successful and happy. But what I found was that lifestyle was not truly my passion. My passion has always been there staring me in the face as I spent most of my time keeping healthy and fit and helping others do the same.

Hopefully along this journey of mine, I will be able to inspire, educate, motivate you all to lead the best life you can!

Kimberly

Adieu

Monday, September 10th, 2007

Today I am happy-sad.

Happy because I’ve really enjoyed the time I’ve spent with 451press. I’ve learnt a great deal while posting and enjoyed every story I’ve done.

Sad because it’s time to leave.

I really hope you check the archives and read all the stuff I’ve worked on. I’ve become far more conscious of my health now than ever before. I’ve understood that most of the time we take our bodies for granted as well as the agility of our thoughts. We spend time meandering into so much trivia when we can actually be doing something that could benefit ourselves and others.

So when I say try to be healthy, I don’t mean stop being obese or skinny or lazy or careless. I don’t advocate a new diet. I have no exercise plan. My idea is that each of us has a unique potential that is the treasure trove we must seek and make use of. Otherwise we will be unhealthy and unhappy. In order to achieve these goals, we can start by making minute changes in our life like having a healthy meal with family and going for a walk everyday.

These little things multiply into a happiness that’s so vital to life-even more than money.

Thank you for reading this post and I hope I can get across to you, my readers, some day in the future from newer pastures.

Goodbye…..

I’ve been tagged!

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

I’ve been tagged by FicScribe and JM has explained what this means:

-Pass your friends a note by leaving a comment.
-Visit them by hitting their site.
-Show them love with a link to their entry.

I’m new to tagging and memes but the idea behind this is to write seven things about myself and tag my fellow reader friends who will do the same. So here goes:

1. Am a very private person so writing about myself is very difficult:)

2. Love Walt Whitman…his poetry has taught me a lot.

3. Have had an arranged marriage.

4. Love my blog experience and believe that health blogging has changed my life and the way I look at health and fitness.

5. My babies inspire me.

6. Love to write, write, write!

7. Dream of seeing the Northern lights.

I tag:

World Health Day

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

Today is World Health Day, so I became a little thoughtful. We live in a world ravavged by disease. Although obesity is making headlines, many parts of the world are battling TB,malaria,AIDS and Hepatitis. It is disease that stops nations from progressing. In Africa, entire villages have been wiped out by AIDS and that means that the remaining few never get a chance to smile.

One author that made me think about world health is Jeffery Sachs. In his book The End of Poverty, he talks about the economic possibilities that could lead to upliftment of poorer nations. Poor nations are being held back by a variety of factors and disease is one of them.

TB is a preventable disease and lack of awareness and medicine make saving lives all the more impossible.Malaria is another example. By using mosquito nets, malaria can be lessened. The thing is that there is so little money out there. Even buying nets is impossible. Who would think about mosquito nets when there is no food?

Fortnightly spa feature

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

I’m really excited about a fortnightly feature that I’ve decided to start from Monday next. I’ve always been interested in health destinations and a good spa is just that. Although the spa experience is heavy on your wallet, it’s worth a go when you feel completely stressed out. If you feel the need to be pampered and the pressure at work or at home is driving you to the edge it would be a great idea to go on a healthy vacation. spa.jpg

Before going to a spa, have an idea of your budget. Are you traveling to some place exotic? What kind of spa treatment are you looking at? Call up the spa first and clarify all your doubts. Depending on the response, take the plunge. Make sure that the spa you have selected is clean and has liscenced masseurs and therapists. Also consult your physician before opting for specific treatments. Take note of the kind of medication you are on.

Read Choosing a good spa

I’m going to try and feature spas all around the world. If there are any spas or health destinations that you would like me to feature it would be great if you could leave a comment or contact me.

Eating Disorders Week

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

This being National Eating Disorders Week, you would be interested in the human face of eating disorders. Why do people destroy their lives on purpose? Why does the ideal of a perfect body tear your mind to pieces? Why does food sometimes turn into your biggest enemy? These are questions that doctors and patients and their families are all trying to figure out.

I came across a devastating video on fitsugar.com. Featuring a movie called Thin, this site sure grabs yor attention. Lauren Greenfield is a photographer who wants to capture anorexic patients not as a fraction of the dying population but she also tries to trace a reason behind the dying urge to be thin. 10% of anorexics die and to die of starvation when you don’t have to is the predicament of so many young girls who chase perceptions of perfection that are ridiculously unachievable.

Strangely enough, binge eating disorder is the most common eating disorder and affects 4 million people in the U.S alone, 40% of the victims being men. When you start chomping away at potato chips or ice cream and finish foods in a matter of minutes you have a problem. The main reason for this kind of eating is stress. You take refuge in food;it helps you stop thinking. Read Ron Saxon’s story.

National Cookie Day

Monday, December 4th, 2006

Yes.It really exists.

Since there’s a cookie day, I wasn’t surprised when I found that a cookie diet actually existed. Dr. Sanford Siegel formulated an obesity cure with his thyroid-boosting cookies. These cookies don’t taste anything like your lip-smacking chocolate chip cookies. The ingredients are eggs, oats, cereal, fat, sugar and starch. The cookie diet prescribed allows you to live on these thyroid-boosting cookies and a single meal a day,not to forget lots of water. The doc advises an intake of 800 calories a day.

Read this link for more on the cookie story:
