Being Veg

Monday, July 16th, 2007

How hard is to be a vegetarian?

Very for some.

v1.jpg

I’ve tried being vegetarian but I’ve failed miserably. It worked out for a couple of years when I was really into the Art of Living course and all that. But now I have an occasional chicken temptation come biting me. So I opt for Chicken Tikka and yes even crunchy KFC.

My intake of meat has really come down…I’ve quit mutton, bacon, crab…

There is an idea that being vegetarian is equal to being boring. But what drove me to being vegetarian was compassion.

Have you been a guilty vegetarian and dreamt of the occasional turkey slice? I know some vegetarians who vomit at the smell of chicken. That is social conditioning in its extreme.

The vegetarian diet is safe. Even pregnant women vouch by it. If you have prenatal vitamins, mineral supplements, plenty of fruits and vegetables, nuts, raisins and whole grain servings(up to six times a day) and plenty of water, being pregnant will be a breeze. Your doctor can help you chart a good diet if you have doubts about being vegetarian and pregnant at the same time.

There’s nothing wrong in being vegetarian considering that global warming has a lot to do with the meat industry(the burping cows cause global warming argument) today. We have the supplements and nutritional know how to stick to being sensibly veg. But if you have a craving, identify what nutritional supplement you may be lacking in. Guilt is not the answer.

If you want to go veg and have no clue read this article.

Five ways to Eat Healthy in a Restaurant

Monday, June 18th, 2007

The diet managers are saying avoid restaurant foods. But if you eat smart even restaurant eating can be food for fun.

1.Drink a glass of water before the meal.

2.Order for sauces on the side; so you are in control of however much you take.

3.Opt for mustard sauce instead of mayonnaise, tomato sauce instead of cream-based sauces, brown bread as opposed to white.

4. For dessert have fruit.

5.Order before your friends do.

More interesting tips here.

What You Eat Can Cause Global Warming

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

Eating meat contributes to global warming. Surprised?

1.According to reports from the FAO of the U.N, the livestock sector contributes to greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane. These gases when in excess retain the heat in the atmosphere and cause rise in temperatures.

2.Cow manure and flaulence are an important source of methane gas. Talk about fart pollution!

3.The livestock sector also uses plenty of water and contaminates it too by way of excrement, hormones and other waste.

4.The entire world is opting for unhealthy food choices and so meat production is sky rocketing. Although no one wants to say it, the truth is going vegan is not about being picky or anorexic or diet-fashionable. It’s about going green.

This story is a must-read.
