Getting motivated….
The diet secrets are out in the open. Fitness literature is overflowing. Everyone knows what their BMI is. Everyone knows how much energy is invested in a single calorie. But when it comes down to exercising, we make excuses.
There are just so many jobs to get done.
The kids have to come home from school.
Office was taxing today.
Today I had to do my laundry.
Who is going to diet at this age?
I lived without dieting all this while. What’s the big deal?
I’d rather be fat than skinny and flat -chested.
I am just not MOTIVATED.
I think that the only place that motivation can come from is FEAR of death. We will all die. But we can’t just take our health for granted. We have an obligation toward our selves and our bodies just as we do toward our children and our community. Trying to keep fit is a duty we have toward our bodies.
If you live near a gym and find yourself postponing your workouts, maybe the gym equipment intimidates you and you feel out of place there. Go for a walk everyday. Ten thousand steps a day can keep you fit. A pedometer helps you to count all those steps taken. If you are just not a gizmo person, take a walk for 30 to 45 minutes. Buy exercise wear so that you will want to wear your new outfit and have your walk. If you don’t like the gym, try out yoga and tai chi. These exercises are fun to do and are extremely motivating.
Once you get the exercising right, the diet will follow. You know how hard you’ve worked to get off those calories. So you will prefer to eat healthy.
I think Dr Deepak Chopra can motivate you like no one else can:
“Most people think that aging is irreversible and we know that there are mechanisms even in the human machinery that allow for the reversal of aging, through correction of diet, through anti-oxidants, through removal of toxins from the body, through exercise, through yoga and breathing techniques, and through meditation. Most people believe that aging is normal but nobody defines what normal aging is. What we call normal may be the psychopathology of the average. Most people think that aging is genetic and yet if your parents lived to age 80+ that will add three years to your life. For the rest of the interview read this:
