Health Challenge:Walking

by Neel

This week’s health challenge has come in a bit too late but I’ll post it anyway….

Walking whenever you get the chance.

I’ve become addicted to my laptop as I blog a good deal and spend a lot of time writing and making notes. So I’ve decided to start moving around more and what better way than walking. If you are working try to get up every half hour and get a breather. The usual take the stairs route. Or park your car a good distance from your destination.

I really loved this story on walking and fitness…..starts like this…

Many people treat their bodies as if they were rented from Hertz -
something they are using to get around in but nothing they genuinely care about understanding.

- Lawrence Durrell

More here…..Walking 65000 miles

Tell me about how much you walk in a day. Are you restless by nature or do you prefer the sedentary life?

I personally like walking but for me the issue is inability to move around much since I live in a polluted crowded city and find it difficult to walk in any place except crowded malls on weekends….have to find a way to get around these problems….

I’m restless by nature. I hate driving, love public transit, and definitely enjoy walking. It’s one of the best parts about Europe, too! :) I used to run but I have the knees of a 95 year old, so now I walk and it’s just as good exercise. I take my dog to the dog park and walk laps (3 or 4 is about a mile) while he plays and chases the ball. I get off the bus early to walk down the pedestrian mall, enjoy the random people and the music and the smells. My mom lost 60 pounds by walking, and basically cured herself of diabetes. This year I’ll be doing my 2nd half marathon up Pike’s Peak (a 14,000 ft. mountain) and I generally walk 90% of it. Walking…RULES.

The only time I walk is when I do shopping. Pathetic me..

  3. Happy Medium Says:

I can only get my walking accomplished in climate-controlled environments. There’s just not enough money (or health benefits) in the world to get me out there on hot, humid August days. Thank God for gyms and treadmills!

    Caroline:Walking definitely rules!

Alfa: Shopping is a great way to walk. I walk most in malls….

    Happy Medium: True!
